About the Presenters:
Kay Hashagen is a Senior Consultant with LW Consulting, Inc., where she leverages more than 35 years of healthcare experience to improve organizations through operations management, specializing in geriatric rehabilitation in a variety of care settings. Kay is known for creative energy, giving her an incredible ability to identify root causes of problems and develop strategies to engage staff and change behaviors.
Kay started her career as a physical therapist in acute care hospitals and inpatient rehab facilities, later specializing in industrial rehabilitation and worker’s compensation. She is proficient in developing and managing contract rehabilitation relationships from start-up to successful business ventures. She also serves as a lead auditor and Project Manager on engagements requiring audit, analysis, recommendations, and training for inpatient rehabilitation facilities (IRF). Her experience also includes acting as the lead IRF auditor for Independent Review Organization (IRO) audits with a Corporate Integrity Agreement.
Kay received her Bachelor of Science in physical therapy from Temple University and her M.B.A. from the University of Central Florida. She is currently licensed as an active physical therapist in Maryland with inactive licenses in Florida, Alabama, Virginia, and New York. She is also well-versed in PPS and MDS management and maintains her certification as a Resident Assessment Coordinator. She is an active member of the American Medical Rehabilitation Providers Association (AMPRA).
Zenobia Knight is a Consultant with LW Consulting, Inc. (LWCI), specializing in auditing PT/OT/ST charts for medical necessity, regulatory compliance, and accuracy of ICD-10 and CPT coding. She is also involved in conducting audits for providers under Corporate Integrity Agreements.
Additionally, Zenobia provides expert witness testimony for attorneys and other clients of LWCI. She has defended claims denials for clients before the U.S. Department of Justice, as well as written expert opinions for defense and plaintiff. She has opined on negligence, clinical quality practice standards and evidenced based practice as it relates to ethical provider services delivered in the physical therapy sphere.
Zenobia served in the United States Army where she was awarded a direct commission and served five years on active duty. She advanced in rank from second lieutenant to captain and was later promoted to major while in the U.S. Army Reserve. Zenobia was responsible for the supervision of enlisted personnel and had a clinical emphasis on sports medicine and neuro-musculoskeletal evaluations. She holds a Bachelor of Science in physical therapy from Howard University, a Bachelor of Science in computer information systems from University of West Florida, and an MBA from Monmouth University. She has completed hours towards a transitional Doctor of Physical Therapy program and is certified as a Resident Assessment Coordinator.
Deborah Alexander is a seasoned healthcare executive and consultant with LW Consulting, Inc. bringing over thirty years of industry experience in the rehabilitation industry. Deb specializes in risk management and assessment, development and implementation of audits, leading compliance and privacy investigations, and providing regulatory compliance updates to executive leadership. Deborah demonstrates a high level of integrity and follow-through in preventing illegal, unethical, or improper conduct through execution of meticulous audits, investigations, best practices and enforcement of government regulations.
Deborah holds an active physical therapy license in PA and DE. She earned her Bachelor of Science in physical therapy from Thomas Jefferson University, Master of Education from Temple University, and Doctorate in physical therapy from Simmons College. Deborah’s certifications include Project Management Professional (PMP) through Penn State University which allows her to assist clients with project planning and implementation. Deb is also certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC) and Healthcare Privacy Compliance certifications (CHPC) through the Health Care Compliance Association. Deborah holds memberships in the Project Management Institute, Health Care Compliance Association, American Physical Therapy Association, the National Athletic Training Association and the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Deb recently served as the Pennsylvania Physical Therapy Association Payment Specialist as well.
